    Ranger Van Design

    Background

Ranger Design operates a network of 300+ independent outfitters that sell and install its vehicle equipment. The company needed a better way to support complex product configuration and quoting while connecting customers, outfitters, and internal business systems.

    Discovery

The existing sales process involved complex product configurations, vehicle-specific requirements, and coordination across a distributed network of independent outfitters. A successful solution needed to make configuration and quoting easier for customers and outfitters while ensuring accurate information flowed into the company’s existing operational and financial systems.

    Defining the Solution

The solution centered on a custom CPQ platform that allowed products to be configured based on customer and vehicle requirements, with pricing generated dynamically from the selected options. The platform also needed to connect the quoting experience to the systems supporting order processing and business operations.

    Implementation

I designed and developed the custom CPQ platform and supporting customer portal using PHP and JavaScript. The system integrated with accounting and operations through REST APIs and connected the customer-facing experience with internal business processes. I also migrated the platform’s cloud SQL infrastructure and continued extending the system as new requirements emerged.

    Outcome

The resulting platform gave Ranger Design and its network of 300+ independent outfitters a centralized way to configure, price, and manage complex products while connecting those activities to the company’s existing systems. The project supported a more scalable sales process across a distributed business network and helped reduce the manual work involved in configuring and quoting products.

    Min Plastics & Supply

    Background

Founded in 1950, Min Plastics & Supply had built its business around one of the largest and most complete inventories of plastic sheets in the Pacific. The company wanted to begin selling its made-to-order products online, but its existing products required dynamic pricing based on customer specifications that traditional ecommerce platforms could not easily support.

    Discovery

The key challenge was determining how to translate the company’s existing pricing and ordering logic into an online purchasing experience. Customers needed to specify dimensions, materials, quantities, and other product options while receiving an accurate price before placing an order. The solution also needed to fit the company’s existing operations rather than forcing the business to change how it fulfilled orders.

    Defining the Solution

The discovery process led to a custom ecommerce experience built around a dynamic pricing calculator. Instead of treating each product as a fixed-price item, the system calculated pricing based on the customer’s selections and specifications. This made the complexity of the company’s made-to-order products manageable within a self-service online experience.

    Implementation

I designed and developed the custom ecommerce platform, including the product configuration and dynamic pricing functionality. The ordering workflow was integrated with the company’s existing systems and processes, allowing online orders to move into the business without requiring a separate manual sales process.

    Outcome

The result was Min Plastics’ first ability to sell its made-to-order products online. Customers could configure products, receive accurate pricing, and place orders without sales assistance, extending a business established in 1950 into a scalable digital sales channel.

    V-Go Insulin Pump

    Background

V-Go engaged me to develop a secure system for submitting and administering medical insurance records. The project required translating an operational need into a system that could support sensitive records and the organization’s requirements for handling them.

    Discovery

The initial phase focused on working through the processes surrounding record submission and administration and translating those needs into defined system requirements.

    Defining the Solution

The requirements were evaluated against the operational and security needs of the organization, with solution evaluation focused on determining how those requirements could be addressed within a practical system design.

    Implementation

I directed cross-functional coordination across requirements, development, and implementation, carrying the project from the defined requirements through deployment of the completed system.

    Outcome

The result was a secure medical insurance records submission and administration system that supported the organization’s operational needs and provided a foundation for continued use following the project’s completion.

    Summit Fleet

    Background

Summit Fleet was a growing fleet-management business with a technology environment that evolved alongside the organization. As operational, marketing, and reporting needs changed, the systems supporting the business had to change with them.

I served as a long-term technical advisor, working directly with stakeholders to evaluate needs, assess the existing technology environment, and determine how systems and tools should evolve over time.

    Discovery

Discovery was an ongoing and cyclical process rather than a one-time project phase. Regular conversations with stakeholders provided a continuing view of changing business needs, while the existing technology environment was continually reevaluated to identify gaps, limitations, opportunities, and areas for improvement.

As requirements changed, the focus was not simply on adding another feature. Each need had to be considered within the context of the existing systems, integrations, data flows, and operational processes.

    Defining the Solution

As the business evolved, solutions had to evolve with it. This meant working across a broad range of custom applications and tools, determining when an existing system could be extended, when an integration could solve the problem, and when an entirely new solution was warranted.

Solutions included custom applications, administrative tools, analytics systems, dashboards, reporting frameworks, and multi-channel API integrations connecting internal systems with external platforms.

    Implementation

I managed the ongoing implementation and evolution of these systems, including developing new applications, extending existing tools, implementing and optimizing API integrations, and maintaining dashboards and reporting frameworks.

The work required moving continuously between business requirements and technical implementation, balancing new capabilities with the reliability and maintainability of the existing environment. Solutions were evaluated and refined as business needs changed rather than treated as finished once deployed.

    Outcome

The relationship provided Summit Fleet with a consistent technical resource capable of understanding both the business and its evolving technology environment. Instead of addressing technology needs as isolated projects, the systems could be continuously evaluated, adapted, integrated, and improved as the organization grew.

The result was an evolving technology environment that remained aligned with changing operational needs while supporting the business’s ongoing growth.

    Shoot Straight

    Background

The retailer wanted to sell regulated products online while remaining compliant with federal requirements. At the time, they had been told by multiple vendors that the project wasn’t practical due to the complexity of the purchasing process. Their existing agency brought me in to evaluate the situation and determine whether a workable solution existed.

    Discovery

The initial request sounded straightforward, but a detailed review of the existing business processes quickly revealed why previous attempts had stalled. Every possible purchasing scenario had to be mapped, from mixed carts containing regulated and standard products to payment processing, inventory, shipping, store pickup, compliance checks, and the responsibilities of both customers and employees. The objective wasn’t simply to make online sales possible. It was to ensure every scenario could be handled consistently without disrupting day-to-day operations.

    Defining the Solution

The discovery process showed that traditional ecommerce workflows couldn’t support the business requirements. After evaluating the available approaches, a split-order workflow became the most practical solution. Regulated and non-regulated products followed separate fulfillment paths while remaining part of a single customer experience. That approach satisfied the operational requirements without forcing customers through two unrelated purchasing processes.

    Implementation

Once the approach was established, I led the technical implementation from discovery through deployment. The platform integrated payment processing, compliance workflows, logistics, and administrative tools into a single system while fitting within the retailer’s existing operations. Staff training was planned alongside development so employees understood how the new workflows affected fulfillment, customer service, and day-to-day responsibilities before launch.

    Outcome

The result wasn’t simply that customers could purchase regulated products online. The business gained a process that employees could confidently operate, customers could easily understand, and management could continue expanding without replacing the underlying workflow.
