Centralizing Order Intake and Management

150+ Employees · 300+ Outfitters

A company took orders for complex, vehicle-specific equipment and passed them to a network of more than 300 independent outfitters who did the building. Quoting was difficult, order information was scattered across departments, and the company wanted to move to a centralized cloud platform with automated order intake.

Orders moved between departments and outside outfitters through asynchronous handoffs. Each product had to be configured to the vehicle and priced by option. With redundant steps and no single source of truth, it was hard to keep order information consistent, see where an order stood, or know who owned the next step.

I led requirements discovery and solution design, then built a configure-price-quote (CPQ) engine and a centralized order-management platform with a portal for customers and outfitters. Pricing is generated from the selected options. The platform connects to inventory and accounting through REST APIs, uses event-driven processing to move orders through each handoff, and controls access by role across departments. I also migrated the database to the cloud and supported rollout across the company.

Configuration, quoting, and order tracking moved into one system shared by 150+ employees and 300+ outfitters. Redundant processing dropped, and staff could see where any order stood.

Bringing Regulated Retail Online and Creating an Affiliate Network

Multi-Location Retailer · 100+ Employees · Affiliate Network

A firearms retailer wanted to sell its full inventory online, including regulated products. Multiple vendors had told them it wasn’t possible with their existing structure. Their agency brought me in to find a solution.

A standard checkout couldn’t handle it. Regulated and standard products had different rules for payment, shipping, refunds, pickup, and verification. Every purchasing scenario had to work without compromising compliance or disrupting how the stores already ran. Online orders for regulated items could only be picked up at one of the retailer’s own 13 stores, which limited online sales to customers near those stores.

Developed a custom ecommerce order-management platform with split-order payments, fulfillment, shipping, and administration. Coordinated the separate transaction lifecycles while accommodating in-store pickup, verification requirements, and operational edge cases. Supported implementation and training across the business.

To reach customers beyond those stores, I built an affiliate network open to any licensed gun retailer in the state. Retailers join through a new affiliate role, and their Federal Firearms License is verified through an FFL API and then reviewed and approved. Affiliates earn a commission on each order picked up at their location. At checkout, customers use a custom integration to find a nearby affiliate, and shipping APIs route regulated items to that store.

The retailer sold regulated products online for the first time, through a process staff could run and customers could follow. The affiliate network opened pickup to any licensed retailer in the state that joined the network.

Five Years as Technical Advisor

Fleet Services · Operations

For five years I was the technical lead for a growing fleet-services business, owning the systems behind its reporting, marketing, and daily operations through its acquisition.

The business kept changing, and its systems had to change with it. Each new need landed in an environment of existing applications, integrations, and data flows, so nothing could be built in isolation.

I met regularly with stakeholders and reassessed the environment as needs changed, deciding case by case whether to extend an existing system, integrate, or build something new. Over five years that produced custom applications, admin tools, analytics dashboards, reporting frameworks, and multi-channel API integrations connecting internal systems with outside platforms.

The company had one technical resource who understood both the business and its systems, so its technology kept pace with growth instead of being handled as one-off projects.

Automated Inventory Synchronization

300K+ Parts · 20+ Vendors

Developed a cloud-based inventory automation platform to synchronize product availability across multiple vendors, reducing manual intervention.

Stock levels were reconciled by hand from vendor data in different formats on different schedules. At that scale, manual updates were slow, error-prone, and left listings out of sync with real availability.

I designed and built a cloud-based platform that pulls inventory from each vendor’s API, reconciles it into one dataset, and updates availability automatically. Ordering workflows run against the same data.

Inventory updates across 300K+ parts and 20+ vendors run automatically instead of by hand, cutting the manual work and the errors that came with it.
